Anna Doyle West Murphy, 89, formerly of Little Hocking, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 17, 2014, following a long illness.
She was born May 31, 1924, in Wood County, a daughter to the late John and Olive Doyle.
She was very proud of her Irish heritage and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Parkersburg. She enjoyed private duty nursing, which she did for many years; she loved helping others.
She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Mowery and Penny O'Donnell of Belpre; son, Daniel West (Linda) of Davisville; one sister, Doris Higginbotham of Kentucky; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burnell Murphy; daughter, Myrna Wheldon; grandson, Daniel "Slim" Batten; five brothers, Johnny, Robert, Howard, William and Markus Doyle, all of Parkersburg; and sister, Marie Coe of California.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Arcadia Nursing Home for their loving care.
Per her request, Mrs. Murphy donated her body to science. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Dan Plum officiating.
