Don’t call officer ‘the shooter’

January 19, 2014
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

Why must The News and Sentinel refer to police officers involved in shooting incidents as "the shooter"? Your staff is not reporting on a gang-style, drive-by shooting, a CSI-style crime story, or a story about a sniper. Surely, the staff there has had a sufficient amount of education, so that they may refer to an officer involved in a shooting incident in a more dignified way.
