John W. Nichols, 70, of St. Marys, W.Va., passed away Jan. 16, 2014, at the Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus, Parkersburg.
He was born July 28, 1943, in St. Marys, W.Va., a son of the late Pearl and Grace Hart Nichols.
He was a 1961 graduate of St. Marys High School and retired after 36 years from Momentive (Union Carbide/Witco) in Sistersville, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of George Street Church of Christ, and a member of the St. Marys Golf Club. Hobbies included golfing, bowling, his grandkids, mowing grass and was an accomplished guitar player.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet Bailey Nichols; two sons, John Mike (Elaine) Nichols of Williamstown, W.Va., and Jeff (Becky) Nichols of St. Marys, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Sydney Nichols, Reagan Nichols, Rachael Nichols, Dylan Nichols and Mahayla Brooke Nichols; two brothers, Larry (Mary) Nichols of Westerville, Ohio, and Ronald Nichols of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held Monday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., with Rob Fraser officiating. Interment will be in the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery, with military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, and from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the Ingram Funeral Home.
