William C. "Bill" Cunningham, 85, of Marietta, Ohio (formerly of Hebron, W.Va.) passed away peacefully on Jan. 1, 2014 at The Arbors of Marietta following a brief illness.
Bill was born on Feb. 6, 1928, in St. Marys, W.Va. to the late Oliver C. and Mary Jane Bailey Cunningham. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Marjorie Ann Jameson of Marietta, Ohio. Also surviving are their children Sharon McCabe (Greg) of Marietta; Gloria Leach (Paul) of Wilmington, Delaware; Judy Cunningham of Marietta; William K. Cunningham (Debbie) of Vienna, W.Va. and Wayne Cunningham (Michelle) of Gillette, W.Va. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by three brothers, Jim of Ocala, Fla.; Harvey (Frances) of Hebron, W.Va.; Pete (Janice) of St. Marys, and sister-in-law Anna Mary Cunningham Ball of St. Marys and many nieces and nephews.
Bill served in the US Army from April 19, 1946-Oct. 14, 1947 with the Amphibious Engineers' Corps. He received the World War II Victory Medal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Grace (Bob) Dawson; brothers Dent (Erma) Curtis, Bob, Art (Lola) and Harry (Carol); sister-in-law Margie "Odie" Cunningham, one niece and two nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday 1 p.m. at the McCullough Funeral Home, Pennsboro with Pastor Myron Guiler officiating. Interment will follow at the Maple Lane Cemetery, Pleasants County. Visitation will be today, 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services.
