Mayetta Louise (Snyder) Merrill, 88, of Parkersburg, died Dec. 21, 2013, at her home peacefully with her children being present.
She was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Paden City, W.Va., to the late Henry and Louise Jacobs Snyder.
She attended Paden City area schools and was a finisher in the local pottery. She met her husband Orvil Merrill while he was farming the local island outside of Paden City. They were married in 1946 and had five children.
She was a businesswoman, and ventured into real estate and owned Mid-Ohio Valley Lime Inc. along with her husband and son David. Under her watchful eye, she expanded the business, adding Mid-Ohio Valley Bulk Transport Inc. and South Seven Leasing LLC. She was active in the daily operations of her business up until her recent illness. She was also a longtime member of the Parkersburg Women's Club.
Mayetta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orvil; eldest son, David; two brothers, Charles Snyder and Clay Snyder; and two sisters, Merledene Aleio and Hazel Snyder.
She is survived by her remaining children, Vicki Reus (Jack) of Quinton, Va., Connie Finnerty (John) of Roanoke, Va., Steven Merrill (Karen) of Marietta, Ohio, and Charles Merrill (Nancy) of Parkersburg, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mayetta loved life and enjoyed every minute of it. She remembered just about everyone she met and would have a word of encouragement for them. Her laugh and personality is what stood out. You always knew when she was nearby.
Her husband was her soul mate and the love of her life and they were truly each other's best friend. Orvil adored her and she was his driving force in his life. They would come to be known as "Mr. and Mrs. Wonderful" by each other and by the people that knew them.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with funeral services at 2 p.m. Friday at North End Church of Christ, officiated by Evangelist Steven Haguewood and the Rev. Michael Seely. Burial will follow with private graveside services at Merrill Chapel Cemetery beside her beloved Orvil.
