Everyone is so worried that we say, "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays," but do not seem to be upset that food stamps have been cut, as well as Meals on Wheels, etc.
What is wrong with this picture? The loud voices are saying people should get jobs. The people I know on food stamps are elderly, have health problems, are children and cannot work. Many of those who do work are in low paying jobs at fast food restaurants or giant stores like Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target, etc.
Oh, I forgot the weakest Congress in history did not renew unemployment benefits for 1.3 million people who are seeking jobs that have not been created by the top 1 percent.
I know that I am being cynical, but I get tired of hearing how we are a Christian nation and must follow the Constitution. If we were a Christian nation, 1 in 5 children would not be hungry. People would be getting a living wage of $15 an hour and the CEO's of those companies could earn less and not miss it. They just wouldn't have to send as much to the banks in the islands to avoid paying income taxes.
My dream and wish for 2014 is that members of Congress will have a visit from the spirits of Christmas past, present and future and wake up as loving members of the human race and want to share God's gifts with everyone not just their wealthy donors.
Another wish I have for 2014 is that our government will function as was expressed by our founders in the Constitution and as President Lincoln said, "A government of the people, by the people and for the people," not a government of, by and for corporations.
