Hays, Donahue win crowns
SOLON, Ohio - Parkersburg 152-pounder Trapper Hays and 106-pound teammate Jared Donahue both won individual weight class championships at the Solon Comet Classic on Saturday night.
PHS compiled 140 points to finish third behind champion Nordonia (179.5) and runner-up Clay (168).
Austin Spears (113) and Codie Barrows (160) finished fifth for the red and white.
PARKERSBURG -Parkersburg Christian claimed the championship of its invitational tournament on Saturday, beating North Pleasants in an opening round game, then defeating the same title in the title contest.
PC opened the tourney with a 43-27 win that saw Korben Wright score 16 points and also grab a game-high 12 rebounds.
North Plesants then battled back to earn a berth opposite Parkersburg in the title game and it resulted in a 55-43 victory for the home team with Wright scoring 14 and Harlan Bower 10 for Parkersburg (3-4). Austin Martin had 26 for North Pleasants.
Bowswer and Evan Schoolcraft made the all-tournament team and Wright was the MVP.
Wood County Christian
Wins Paden City Classic
PADEN CITY -Wood County Christian blasted host Paden City, 68-30, here Saturday night in the title game of the Paden City Christmas Classic. The Lord sisters -Hannah with 25 points and Heather with 21 -led the visitors to a 60-22 lead after 24 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, Adria Herridge, who set a Wood County school record on Friday night with eight blocked shots, had nine in the game to break the mark she had set just 24 hours previously.
Both Lords and Herridge were named to the all-tournament team along with Cydney Blatt and Myah Charkawi of Paden City.
In the consolation game, Tyler Consolidated blasted Valley Wetzel, 80-43, behind 28 points from Sydney Reed and 18 from Sophie Kinnard.
Parkersburg 64, Elkins 33
LKINS -Parkersburg High made an impressive debut here Saturday, blasting Elkins, 64-33, behind 23 points from Haley Ackerman, who drilled five 3-point goals for PHS (1-0).
Brooke Kurucz added 10 points and Kameron Snyder nine as the Big Reds rolled to a 35-15 halftime lead and never looked back.
PHS will travel to Wheeling Park on Wednesday.

Parkersburg Christian 35
PARKERSBURG - Playing its third game of the day, host Parkersburg Christian had to settle for the runner-up trophy at its own tournament after the Knights were defeated by Ohio Valley Christian, 54-35, in the title game.
Angel Danh led the Knights (3-4) with eight points.
OVC, which won every quarter, got a game-high 17 points from Rachel Sargent. Emily Carman and Sarah Schoonover chipped in 10 points apiece.
