Truman Freeland

Truman Freeland, 88, of Pennsboro, passed away Nov. 23, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center, after a sudden illness.

He was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Pennsboro, a son of the late Claude and Faye (Jones) Freeland.

Mr. Freeland worked in the glass industry in Pennsboro. He also worked in the timber industry and built airplanes in Baltimore earlier in his life. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served on the front lines in Frankfurt, Germany under Patton and Eisenhower. Truman was avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved his family and was a loving father and grandfather.

Surviving are three daughters, Clara Jane Hendrickson of Charlotte, N.C., Sharon Kay Dean (David) of Harrisville, and Barbara Jo Hinzman (Christopher) of West Union; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Loraine M. "Jo" Freeland; daughter, Dianna Lynn Pickens; two infant daughters; infant son; brother, Everett Freeland; and sister, Genevieve Dodd.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at the McCullough Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with Pastor Roger Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Harmony Masonic Cemetery, Pennsboro. Visitation will be Friday, 4-8 p.m.
