I have lived in Belpre, Ohio, for the last 14 years. I have supported all of the levies long needed to repair our schools and support our students. Each one failed. I think the Wood County Schools Continuing Levy should be passed in West Virginia.
However, I believe your paper's disclosure on how the funds will be used has dampened many people's support of this important issue. The levy is approximately $16 million dollars. Almost $1 million ($800,000) of the levy is going to be used for employee dental care - not 'For Excellent Schools'.
I have heard various people in Parkersburg comment about this issue and I think it could contribute to a levy failure. Unlike Wood County, Belpre intended to use their levy monies to repair crumbling school buildings.
