Jack Oliver Matteson, 51, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away Nov. 17, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in Parkersburg, the son of the late Frederick Thomas Matteson Jr. and Dolores M. Evers Matteson of Parkersburg.
He had been employed by Abraxas as a Social Worker and was passionate about helping troubled youth. He enjoyed building and was a "handyman". He enjoyed story telling, singing and loved spending time with family especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Beechwood Presbyterian Church where he ran the sound system, sang in the choir and worked with the youth.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his sons, Frederick Thomas "Tom" Matteson and wife Traci of Vienna and David Anthony "Tony" Matteson and wife Daphane of Massachusetts. His grandchildren, Xaiden Thomas Matteson, Avery Oliver Matteson and Kairi Eliah Matteson. His sisters, Lynn McLaughlin, Susan Lee Matteson and Ginger Carrano and husband Jim all of Parkersburg. His sister in law, Karen Matteson of Shade, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Jennifer Dawn Matteson. And his caregiver, Lois DeSanti.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Edward Matteson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Beechwood Presbyterian Church with Reverend Rick Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg and at the church one hour prior to the servce.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Beechwood Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Parkersburg Humane Society.
