The Blennerhassett Friends of NRA held its annual fundraising banquet on Oct.25 at the Nemesis Shrine. The local Parkersburg event raised more than $25,000, which exceeded the amount required by the NRA to achieve "High Caliber" status.
The Friends of NRA is a nonprofit arm of the NRA that raises funds to support the shooting sports. The nice thing about supporting the Friends is 50 percent of all monies raised in West Virginia come back to the state in the form of local grants. Funds raised at our previous banquets have come back to our area in the form of grants awarded to the Wood and Wirt county 4H clubs, the Parkersburg South ROTC air rifle program, and a shooting program at the Boys and Girls Club. Our efforts have also been used to support local law enforcement programs, the WVU Rifle Team and to help support and renovate rifle ranges in the state.
The other half of the funds are also beneficial. These funds go to national where they are used to support the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety program taught in the schools, the Refuse to Be A Victim program and other beneficial national level shooting programs.
The local committee appreciates all who attended and helped make this year's banquet such a success.
