WESTERVILLE, Ohio Otterbein University used a 20-point second quarter to defeat Marietta College 29-21 Saturday afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference football action. The Cardinals improved to 5-4 overall and 5-3 in the OAC while Marietta fell to 1-8 overall and 1-7 in the OAC.
The Pioneers took the opening kickoff and marched the ball right down the field for a quick 7-0 lead. Marietta rushed the ball 11 times on the 13-play, 81-yard drive. Junior running back Tim Conner carried the ball seven times for 40 yards including the touchdown from two yards out.
Conner finished the game with 164 yards on 23 carries and a pair of rushing touchdowns. Marietta outgained the Cardinals 277-204 on the ground. Freshmen running backs Roger Bush and Patrick Lewis gained 76 and 26 yards, respectively.
Marietta forced Otterbein to punt on its first possession but fumbled the ball right back to the Cardinals. Otterbein started from the Pioneer 34-yard line and drove it to the four be stalling. The Pioneers dodged a bullet, as Otterbein's 21-yard field goal was no good.

A false start penalty on fourth and one at the 47-yard line forced Marietta to punt the ball away. Otterbein took over at its own 16-yard line and drove the length of the field to knot the score, 7-7.
The Pioneers had to punt on the ensuing possession and the Cardinals responded with another scoring drive. Sophomore running back Drew Ervin broke a couple of big runs and then capped the drive with a six-yard touchdown run. Alana Gaither added the point after for a 14-7 Otterbein lead.
The Pioneers were victimized by a blocked field late in the half. The kick was blocked by Zack Grieves and picked up by Jordan Bonifas who returned it 65 yards to paydirt and a 20-7 Otterbein lead at halftime.
On Marietta's first possession of the second half, the Pioneers mishandled a punt in the end zone and Otterbein was awarded a safety for a 22-7 lead.
Marietta bounced back on its possession with Bush scoring from 2 yards out and Tom Fulton hitting Tyler Anderson for a two-point conversion pass to cut the Pioneers deficit to 22-15.
The teams then traded TDs with Otterbein driving 62 yards and Marietta responding with an 11-play, 97-yard drive, capped by a 2-yard Conner TD.
Fulton completed 9-of-11 passes for 89 yards. Senior wide receiver Kirby Harris had seven catches for 55 yards to lead the Pioneers.
Glenville State 33, Walsh 21
GLENVILLE -Rahman Lee rushed for 216 yards and a score and Steffen Colon hooked with Delvon Purvis for a pair of six-pointers as Glenville State recorded a 33-21 non-conference win over visiting Walsh on Saturday afternoon at Morris Stadium.
The Pioneers led just 12-10 after a see-saw first quarter, but pulled away by outscoring their guests 14-0 in the second stanza for a 26-10 halftime lead.
Glenville (5-5, 4-4 MEC) broke on top on an 8-yard TD run by Derek McRae. GSC missed the extra point kick but led 6-0 with 9:32 left in the first quarter. Walsh didn't need long to take its first lead as Matuska returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a 7-6 lead.
Glenville went up 12-7 on the first of two Colon-to-Purvis six-pointers but Walsh cut the deficit to 12-10 on a 36-yard field goal by Michael Dudics.
The decisive second quarter saw Colon hit Purvis with a 30-yard strike and then run for a 28-yard score.
Lee scored his first and Glenville's last TD on a 68-yard run with 4:52 left. Walsh scored 92 seconds later on a 2-yard run by Aaron Mail to close out the scoring.
Colon completed 15 of 28 passes for 166 yards.
Glenville was penalized a whopping 219 yards while Walsh was flagged for 142 yards.
The Pioneers close out their regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday at West Virginia State.
