ATHENS - More than 160 doses of heroin were seized during Operation Heat Thursday in Athens County, the sheriff said.
Authorities seized 131 unit doses during a traffic stop when John Wagoner, 54, of 7999 Hover Road, Athens, was charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs, Sheriff Pat Kelly said.
From that case, investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence of Derek Mays, 32, 9 West Second St., Apartment 4, The Plains, and all vehicles associated with that address, Kelly said.
During that search, two units of heroin were found in a 2006 Dodge belonging to Doug K. Coen, 44, Ohio 144, Stewart, Kelly said.
Detectives Doug Crites and Jim Heater received information at the search that Mays took the heroin he had to his brother's residence at 10441 State Route 682 where they found 30 unit doses of heroin, Kelly said.
Mays was charged with possession of a bulk amount of heroin, a fourth-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, Kelly said. Coen was charged with possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony, Kelly said.
Both were taken to the South East Ohio Regional Jail.
Mays brother was not involved in the possession of the narcotics and was not arrested, Kelly said.
