Susanne Sharlene Slater Young, 85, peacefully passed away of natural causes, Nov. 7, 2013, at Ohio Valley Health Care in Parkersburg.
Sue Young was born Oct. 23, 1928, the only child of Sam and Agnes Slater.
She graduated from Parkersburg High School and attended Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in the 1950s. There she studied classical piano, met and fell in love with Hubert J. Young of Peru, Ind. After he graduated from Purdue Pharmacy School, they were married May 12, 1956.
Hubert preceded her in death May 30, 1996.
Sue loved the arts through the whole of her life having played piano and pipe organ, attended live theater and symphonies. Any style of music performed well and possessing that illusive quality we know as soul captivated her: jazz, show tunes, symphonic and Allman Brothers to Michael Buble. She lived her life young-at-heart, the youngest octogenarian anyone ever knew. She refused to act, dress and talk "old." Sue's legacy is embodied in her love and dedication to her children.
She is survived by their five children, Marlon Young, Parkersburg, Darvan Young (boyfriend, Brad Morrow), Parkersburg, Morgan (Sandra) Young, Kokomo, Ind., Jameson and fiancee, Brenda Helms, Parkersburg, and Brady (Jennifer) Young, Nashville, Tenn. She is survived by five grandchildren, Taylor, Christian, Meghan and Slater Young and Cadence Morrison.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Morgan Young officiating. Interment will be in the Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
