Ernest Ralph Myer Sr., 72, of Parkersburg, died Oct. 24, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 21, 1940, in Doddridge County, W.Va., a son of the late Ingram E. and Hallie Shinn Myer.
He was retired from the U.S. Army, Sergeant First Class, as an Armament Maintenance Foreman. He served in both the Vietnam and Korean wars. He later worked as an electrician and carpenter in the area. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He is survived by one son, Ernest R. Myer Jr. of Parkersburg; two grandchildren, Ernest R. Myer III of Parkersburg and Sabrina Nicole Saylers of Ohio; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Humfleet of Denver, Colo.; caregiver, Tammy Cron of Ohio; and longtime companion, Debby Myer of Parkersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Helena Jo Myer; first wife, Helen Myer; two sisters, Virginia O'Brien and Helen Broullette; and three brothers, Richard, Robert and Harry Myer.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Dr. William Thomas officiating.
