Thomas J. Stewart, 68, of Williamstown, W.Va., passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on Tuesday, May 8, 1945 in Parkersburg, a son to the late Harry L. Stewart and Juanita (Plant) Stewart of Williamstown.
After Tom graduated from Williamstown High School in 1965, he served in the U.S. Navy and was deployed on two tours in Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown CVS-10. Following the military, he was a Union Painter through Union Local 1144. He served as treasurer for Ducks Unlimited, was a member of the Williamstown American Legion Post #159, a former member of the Ohio River Beagle Club, and was a lifelong member of the NRA. Tom was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid gun collector. He held a special place in his heart for his family, especially his grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his mother; his loving wife of 45 years, Jennifer "Jigger" Campbell Stewart, whom he married on Oct. 26, 1968; three children, Nicholas (Brooke), Joshua and Andrea (Nick Harshbarger), all of Williamstown; seven grandchildren, Geddy Lee, Seth, Lakyn, Isaac, Layne, Lyla and Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Aksel and Dimitri; sister-in-law, Amelia (Wendell) Walker and their children, Liam and Elise; sister, Elizabeth Ann (Gary) White of Melbourne, Fla.; a brother, Kevin (Jolene) Stewart of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; one niece and numerous nephews. In addition to his father, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Jr. and Richard "Dickie".
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at the Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, Ohio, with the Rev. Richard Cale officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Island Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
