PARKERSBURG - Officials will meet tonight to begin discussions on hiring a new city finance director.
Current director Angie Smith announced Oct. 12 she would step down to take another position within the city's development department. Darcie Dyke has been named acting finance director.
The city's Personnel Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the small conference room on the second floor of the city's Municipal Building. The meeting is open to the public.
The committee will discuss a request by Mayor Bob Newell to reorganize the Finance Department and change the pay grade for the finance director position. Newell has also said he would like to increase the base pay on the finance director to $55,00-$60,000 to make the position more attractive and that he plans to seek an outside hire.
Discussion on the position and salary will continue in the city Finance Committee meeting at 6:15, also in the small conference room and open to the public.
During the finance committee meeting, there also will be a presentation on possible changes to sewer rates by Eric Bennett, manager of the Parkersburg Utility Board.
City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the large conference room at the Municipal Building. The meeting is open to the public. Council will hold second and final readings on two ordinances, one establishing a floodplain ordinance and the other abandoning the right of way on a small alley near North Parkersburg Baptist Church.
Council also is expected to approve a resolution establishing new meeting dates for November and December. If approved, council will meet Nov. 12, Nov. 19, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17.
