Jeffery Todd Shears, 48, Lewisburg, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, unexpectedly after doing what he enjoyed - broadcasting a high school football game on television for Greenbrier East.
Shears was a 1983 graduate of Wirt County High School, 1987 graduate of Marshall University with Honors.
He was also the mayor of Elizabeth from 1989 to 1992. Shears was employed by Astra Zeneca Pharmaceutical for several years as a sales representative and was listed in the top three for sales in the United States.
He umpired for high school and college baseball games and enjoyed reading Stephen King Books. He was also an avid Steelers fan.
He is survived by his parents, Phil (Sandy) Shears of Elizabeth and Janet (Richard) Moore of Mineral Wells; grandmother, Dortha Shears of Elizabeth; two daughters, Jasmine Shears of Belpre and Sara Wagoner Brumfield (Joe) of Athens, Ohio; one granddaughter, Athena Brumfield of Athens, Ohio; his brother, Steve Shears of Elizabeth; step sister, Ashley (Alan) Wanosky of Parkersburg; nephew, Dylan Shears; niece, Kaylie Shears, both of Elizabeth; fiancee Pat Surber of Lewisburg.
He is also survived by his faithful companion and dog "Memphis."
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4 in the Elizabeth United Methodist Church with Pastor Everett Snyder officiating. Visitation will be held at Matheny Whited Funeral Home in Elizabeth from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the Elizabeth Methodist Church.
