Irena Maxine Reed

Irena Maxine Reed, 91, of Parkersburg, passed away Sept. 29, 2013, at the Pineview Nursing facility in Harrisville.

She was born in West Union, W.Va., May 5, 1922, a daughter of the late Leeman and Ora Reed Gain.

Maxine had worked for FMC, Libby Owens Glass Co. and the former St. Joseph's Hospital for a number of years. She also enjoyed volunteering with the Wood County Library with the blind and handicap department and was a member of the Murphytown United Methodist Church.

Maxine is survived by daughters, Carolyn Layman and Jim of Parkersburg, Glenda Eaton and Kenneth of Parkersburg; son, Clifton Reed Jr., Cedar Grove; six grandchildren, Stacy Layman-Kennedy (Dan), Kyle Layman, Cheryl Crites (Aaron), Jarrod Eaton (Mindy), Tina Merrill (Nathan), and Tammy Moore (Chris); two step-grandsons, Kermit Hale (Sandy) and Kenney Hale (Amber); six great-grandchildren, Matthew and Taylor Merrill, Tyler Moore, Wyatt Eaton, and Chelsy and Walker Cain; step-great-granddaughter, Mary Hale; sister, Nancy Wilson; brother, Ted Gain; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Clifton Reed in 1981; daughter-in-law, Donna Reed; sisters, Gwendolyn Meredith, Josephine Jett, Ora Lee Deem and Emma Jean Reed; brothers, Robert Gain and William "Bobby" Gain; and granddaughter, Tracy Neale Layman.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Mary Zimmer officiating. Burial will be at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
