PARKERSBURG - An accident that occurred around 8:30 p.m. Monday in front of Wal-Mart on Pike Street caused one woman to be flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, police said.
Amanda Strong, 24, of Mineral Wells was driving south on Pike Street when she went off the road and into the ditch, hitting a culvert pipe underneath the traffic light for Wal-Mart, police said. Strong had surgery at Camden Clark Medical Center Tuesday from injuries she sustained in the crash and was doing fine, Sgt. J.D. Hart of the Parkersburg Police Department said.
Passenger Kaylee Stoops, 24, of Mineral Wells was in critical condition when she was flown from CCMC to Columbus Monday night, Hart said.
One lane of traffic was blocked for about an hour as crews worked to clean up the accident in the 2800 block of Pike Street involving a blue Pontiac sedan.
Hart said the driver of the Pontiac told police she went off the roadway after the front windshield of her vehicle fogged up. However, police said they aren't sure if that was the only reason for the accident.
Witnesses on the scene said the car was traveling slowly when it crashed into the ditch.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, police said.
