Freda Maxine Lewis, 73, of Ellenboro, passed away Sept. 24, 2013, at Care Haven Nursing Facility in Belmont, W.Va. after a long, hard battle with cancer. Through it all, she never complained or showed weakness. Maxine stayed strong till the end.
She was born June 29, 1940 on Haddox Run in Ritchie County, a daughter of the late Martin Luther Mossor and Rosella (Meredith) Mossor.
Maxine retired from the Ritchie County Board of Education where she was a school cook for many years. She was also the co-owner of the Lewis Bike Shop in Ellenboro. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Women's Society and sang in the choir. She also served on the Ellenboro Town Council for many terms. Maxine loved to cook and shop on QVC, but spending time with family, friends and her grandchildren was most important to her, even in her final days at home.
Surviving is a son, Steve Lewis (Kim) of Ellenboro; daughters, Nancy Broce (Dave) of Ellenboro, Jackie Hall (Frank) of Harrisville, and Kristie Campbell of Ellenboro; brother, Donald Mossor of Pennsboro; and sister, Emogene Blanton of Belpre, Ohio. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Mandy Rollins, Johnnie Summers, Josh and Mariah Hall, Carrie Cronin and Emily, Logan, Chloe, CaDan and Jaycee Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Alex, Austin, Aydan, Cylas, Camryn, Seth and Drew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Neil Lewis; daughter, Terry Lewis; her companion, Dennie Shepherd; son-in-law, Jason Campbell; brother, Carl Mossor; sisters, Geneva Reed and Naomi Cunningham; and infant brother, Teddy Mossor.
Funeral services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at the McCullough Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with Rev. Karen Stinespring officiating. Interment will follow at the Ellenboro Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 4-8 p.m.
