Sue Ellen Johnson, a volunteer, prices books at Trinity Episcopal Church for the annual used book sale in November. The church is collecting good-quality used books through the end of October for this year’s sale from Nov. 4-9.
This year's sale will run from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday. On Thursday and Friday, book prices will be cut in half and Saturday will feature bags of books for $1.
Lunch will be served on the first four days of the sale from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. There will be a bake sale and Christmas gift sale in the church's library during the first couple of days of the sale.
Since earlier this year, volunteers at the church have been collecting used books in preparation for the November sale. From 40,000 to 50,000 books are usually sold each year in 25 categories including classic literature, fiction, westerns, romance, science fiction, reference and textbooks.
To Help Out
* To donate used books, Carma Guertin recommended calling Trinity at 304 422-3362 between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday before bringing the books to make sure the door is open to the storage area.
Neilson said visitors to sale will see a change in layout during this year's event.
"We're changing the locations of books to make it more efficient," she said. "There will be signs and they can find what they need."
Making it easier for customers is a goal, Guertin said.
"We think it will be much easier for people to find the books that they want," Guertin said.
Guertin said donations have been going well this year, but more books would be appreciated. The church will be accepting books through the end of October.

There are book sale volunteers present from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays for those who can't call ahead and just want to stop by. The volunteers will be pricing books and collecting book donations.
Neilson said organizers are seeking good-quality used books for the sale, with poor-quality books removed for recycling.
Unsold books at the end of the sale are given to local charities, so each year's sale is stocked with recent donations.
The church uses the money it makes from the sale to contribute to 17 organizations including the West Virginia Youth Foundation, Parkersburg Day Nursery, the Salvation Army, Horizons, Old Man Rivers, the Good Samaritan Clinic and the American Red Cross.
It contributes half the money from the sale to the organizations and the other half goes to Trinity for its programs, Guertin said.
