William Martin Lessner, 79, of Parkersburg, died on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at his home after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 14, 1933 in Accokeek, Md., to the late Lois and Martin Lessner.
William retired from the U.S. Navy after more than 20 years of service covering the end of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He also retired from the Bureau of Public Debt as head of maintenance.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sandra Lessner; three sons, William (Felicia), John (Billy) and Jeremy (Lisa) Lessner; two daughters, Barbara Lessner and Michele (Brian) Pfalzgraf; eight grandchildren, Tara (Ryan) Johnson, Jade Dallas, Jesse and Sophia Lessner, William and John Solomon Lessner, Rachel Lessner, and Alexandria Fluharty; four adoring great-grandchildren, Kaylie and Miva Tomblin, Gage Kelly and Preston Johnson; mother-in-law, Iris Smith; two brothers-in-law, Rick (Tina) and Randy Smith; one uncle, Bob Kenlon; one aunt, Ruth Robey; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Weimken; one son Patrick Garvey; and several aunts and uncles.
Per his wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at South Parkersburg United Methodist Church beginning at 1 p.m. with a receptiion to follow at the CFC building.
