Omar Cowan, 90, of Pensacola, Fla., formerly of Belpre, Ohio, died at the West Florida Hospital in Pensacola on Sept. 8, 2013.
He was born in Harrisville, W.Va., on Dec. 2, 1922 and was the son of the late George and Augusta Sinnett Cowan. He was a member of the Belpre Church of the Nazarene, retired from the River Gas Company in 1982 following 40 years of service. He had been a member of the Star Dusters Square Dance Group at Lubeck. He was a member of the Belpre Masonic Lodge # 609, and was a military veteran.
Survivors include his children, Donna and David Blassingame of Whispering Pines, N.C., Connie and Tom Brookhart of Pensacola, Fla., Penny Straight of Parkersburg, Dottie and Louie Clouse of Massillon, Ohio, Russell and Lace Cowan of Bonifay, Fla., Ron and Vera Cowan of Castle Hayne, N.C., several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a sister Oma Jean Wilson of Massillon, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Naomi Cowan, twin sons, Clyde and Claude Cowan, 10 brothers and sisters and a grandson, Dennis William Cowan.
Services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Belpre Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Matt Morrison and Pastor Will Neff officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre on Friday from 6-8 p.m. where the Belpre Masonic Lodge #609 will conduct Masonic Services at 7:45 p.m.
