PARKERSBURG - City Planner Rickie Yeager will be Parkersburg's new development director beginning in 2014.
Parkersburg City Council approved Yeager during Tuesday's meeting. Mayor Bob Newell asked for a vote during his executive message.
Current Development Director Ann Conageski will retire Dec. 31 and Yeager will assume her position on Jan. 1, 2014.

"It may be unusual that we ask to confirm this ahead of time, but it's unusual we know ahead of time," Newell said. "We want to make sure there is time for training and a smooth transition."
Council voted 8-0 to approve the appointment, with Councilman Mike Reynolds absent.
Council also approved a plan to hire a temporary planning administrator during the transition. The temporary position will be funded for about two months at a cost of about $7,000. The plan was approved by both the personnel and finance committees prior to the start of the regular council meeting.
Newell said the money, which covers salary and benefits, would come out of the city's capital reserve. If other changes in personnel create room within the budget, those dollars would then be returned to capital reserve, he said.
In other business, council voted 7-1 to refer a resolution prohibiting tobacco use within 15 feet of a playground to the city's public works committee. Councilman John Kelly requested the move, saying he was unsure whether the resolution fell under council or the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department. Council President Jim Reed was the lone vote against the motion to send it to committee.
