Loris "Jim" Simmons, 77, of Ashland, Ohio, passed away Sept. 4, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland.
On Oct. 21, 1935, in Beatrice, W.Va., Mr. Simmons was born to Charles and Carmel (Lemon) Simmons.
He had been a resident of Ashland since 1963 and worked 30-plus years at F.E. Myers Company until his retirement in 2001. Jim served with the U.S. Army, loved the outdoors, enjoyed the Atlanta Braves and squirrel hunting.
On Sept. 1, 1963, Mr. Simmons married Rosa Lee Scott, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Lisa (Randy) Honaker of Westerville, Ohio; one son, Kevin (Natalie) Simmons of Ashland, Ohio; three brothers, Paul (Lois) Simmons of Belleville, W.Va., Norman Simmons of Calhoun County, W.Va., and Gary Simmons of Newark, W.Va.; and one sister, Jane Davis of Ellenboro, W.Va.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Emmett Davis; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Simmons.
Funeral services were first held Saturday at Heyl Funeral Home, 227 Broad St., Ashland, Ohio, with Dick Riley officiating. In an additional service, friends may visit with the family Monday from noon until the service time at 1 p.m. at Matheny Whited Funeral Home, 97 Juliana St., Elizabeth, W.Va., with Michael Hardbarger officiating. Interment will be at Fought Cemetery in Newark, W.Va.
