Franklin Delano Blazek, 73, of Vienna, passed away Aug. 23, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph's Campus.
He was born Jan. 21, 1940, in Fairmont, W.Va., the youngest child of the late Joseph Paul and Mary Elizabeth (Semancik) Blazek.
He graduated in 1957 from St. Peters School in Fairmont, and in 1961 from Wheeling University. He taught for five years at Van Devender Junior High, and had worked 29 years for St. Joseph's Hospital. He attended St. Francis Xavier Church where he worked at the food pantry, and volunteered at Good Samaritan Food Pantry at Wayside United Methodist Church for the past 17 years. He raised tomatoes to share with neighbors and he liked to fish. He loved his cats.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joy Ellen Parsons Blazek, who he married on June 15, 1964, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. They had no children of their own, but have three very special nieces, Rita Ann Stephens, Beverly, Ohio, Ingrid Hudnall, Fayetteville, W.Va.., and Joy Davis, Oak Hill, W.Va.; three precious little girls, Lilly, Lila and Layla Davis, who called him Uncle Pappy; sisters, Barbara Adams, Fairmont, W.Va., and Margaret Tennant, Benton, Ill.; brothers, Thomas Blazek, Milford, Conn., and Alfred Blazek, Cleveland, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, Travis Parsons, Edmond, Okla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Edward Blazek, Mary Hawkins and Joseph Blazek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Father John Rice as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with a Wake Service at 8 p.m.
