William F. Smith, 80, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Aug. 21, 2013, at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, W.Va.
He was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., a son of the late Raymond E. and Cora M. (Goff) Smith.
He was a driver for local feed companies and was an EMT and member of Wood County Emergency Squad. He was a member of Camden Avenue Church of Christ. He was a United States Air Force veteran and a member of American Legion Post 15 and DAV. He loved children and shared a lot of candy, pop and goodies with them over the years.
He is survived by three daughters, Christine, Peggy and Tonya; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna M. Hicks of Elizabeth, W.Va. (who took care of him); a brother, Gerald Smith of Salem, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews including Donna "Deeg" Crispen, who he had a special relationship with and was like a daughter to him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Raymond; four other brothers, Alvy, Alfred, Donald and Charles; and a sister, Ruie Perry.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Chaplain Johnny F. Payne officiatng. Burial will be 1 p.m. at Donel Kinnard Memorial State Cemtery in Dunbar, W.Va., with full military honors. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday.
