Cereal is not just for breakfast anymore - it's for delicious desserts or snacks with the new cookbook, "Cereal Sweets & Treats" by Jessica Segarra.
Once featured on her blog, www.thenovicechefblog.com, Segarra takes her love of the breakfast staple to new heights with her delicious recipes and mouth-watering photos.
The treats are divided into five chapters: Bars, Cakes, Cupcakes & Muffins, Candies, Cookies and Frozen Treats.
Bars has recipes for Fruity Pebbles Marshmallow Treats, Espresso Cheerios Bars, Golden Grahams S'Mores and Cake Batter Rice Krispies Treats (you knew rice krispies treats were going to be there somewhere!)
Cakes, Cupcakes and Muffins throws cereal into the mix with Chex Brownies, Lucky Charms Cupcakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch Muffins and more.
Candies offers Reese's Puffs Peanut Butter Truffles, Candied Cheerios Chex Mix, Salted Caramel Corn Pops Balls, Peanut Butter Crnuch Chocolate Bark and Fiber One Butterscotch Haystacks and more.
Cookies get a boost with cereal in Chex Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter Cookies, Lucky Charms Macrons, Cap'n Crunch Cookies and more.
Frozen Treats include Cookie Crisps Cookie Dough Ice Cream Sandwiches, Fruit Loops Popsicles, Honey Bunches of Oats Fried Ice Cream and Corn Pops Ice Cream.
My youngest and I made Red Velvet Rice Krispies Truffles one day since it hit multiple buttons of deliciousness with me - red velvet anything, rice krispie treats and white chocolate! We made the treats, shaped them into balls and then dipped them in white chocolate.
They make small treats - the recipe says it works out to 28 small treats and that seems right, but trust me, you don't want to make them any bigger! They are incredibly delicious, and also incredibly rich. I was even told next time I made them to only dip one side in white chocolate. The prep was actually very easy and made for a fun family activity.
For fun treats for the whole family, definitely give this book a try!
"Cereal Sweets & Treats" is published by Gibbs Smith. It is $19.99.
