Phyllis Maxine Owens, 87, of Ravenswood, W.Va., passed away July 18, 2013, at Ravenswood Village, Ravenswood.
She was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Dunbar, W.Va., the daughter of the late Leslie McLaughlin and Virgie McLaughlin.
She was a long-time member of the Second Baptist Church in Ravenswood. She was the second female certified paramedic in West Virginia. She loved spending time with family, especially grandchildren; she enjoyed needlework, reading and sports, especially NASCAR and baseball.
She is survived by sons, Herbert Wright and wife Joyce, and James Owens and wife Sharon; daughters, Sonja Ritter, Sandra Price and husband Stephen, and Patricia Nesselroad and husband Lyle; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill McLaughlin and wife Mary; one sister, Joanne Melton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow; three brothers, Ralph, Brooks and Bob; and a sister, Norma Jean Reed.
Services will be held Monday, July 22, 3 p.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Pastor S. R. Parsons Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Ravenswood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, July 22, from 1-3 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Mission Fund at Second Baptist Church, Ann and Elwood Streets, Ravenswood.
