CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -A pair of local golfers won their respective age divisions during Wednesday's final round of the West Virginia Junior Amateur at Locust Hill Golf Club.
In the 15-16 age division, Parkersburg South's Alex Schreckengost posted a three-shot margin of victory over runner-up Thomas Frazier of Huntington after shooting rounds of 76 and 75 for a two-day total of 151.
In the girls 15-18 age division, Ritchie County's Sydney Snodgrass trailed first-round leader Adeena Shears of Parkersburg South by one stroke entering yesterday's round but turned in a 77 on Wednesday to claim the title by five strokes. Shears placed runner-up at 74-83-157, while Parkersburg High School's Lauryn Davidson finished third at 82-88-170.
Capturing the overall championship was Charleston's Will Evans, who erased a two-stroke deficit in the final seven holes. Evans, who will be attending Marshall University in the fall, trailed first-round leader Christian Casingal of Charleston by three strokes after the first round but carded rounds of 74 and 72 for a two-day total of 146.
Casingal and Chris Williams of Scott Depot tied for second place at 147.
"These last couple of days were the hottest I've played in a long time, but I kept grinding," Evans said.
