MARIETTA - Firefighters from Marietta and Williamstown took to the water Friday evening after someone reported seeing what might have been a body floating in the Muskingum River.
The caller indicated it could also have been a log swept into the river in recent rains, Marietta Fire Capt. Bruce Weckbacher said. Firefighters put boats in the Ohio River - where the object would have floated by the time they were mobilized - and were unable to locate anything other than normal river debris.
Rains early in the week caused river levels to rise, with the Ohio cresting near 27 feet Thursday. Despite additional precipitation Friday, the level had declined to less than 22 feet by 9 p.m.
Electrical crews continued to work to restore power lost in Wednesday's storms. About 125 AEP Ohio customers in Washington County and 345 in Morgan County were still without power Friday evening, with complete restoration expected late Friday in the Marietta area and by noon today around McConnelsville.
Washington Electric Cooperative still had about 450 members without power Friday evening. Full restoration was anticipated by this evening.
