Rita ‘Topsy’ Lemon

Rita "Topsy" Lemon, 79, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away July 9, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus surrounded by family and a dear friend, Keith, who she loved like a son.

She was born March 23, 1934, one of three children of the late Charles Taft and Olive Kenova Gilchrist Crooks.

Rita was a diehard WVU and Cleveland Browns football fan. She loved shopping, gambling and visiting with her dear friends at the American Legion Post 15.

Surviving is her other half and sister, Nancy Slack (Bob); her three daughters, Tracy Lemon (Keith), Vicki Carpenter (Jack) and Lisa Brand (Gary). Grandchildren, Shannon Nelson (Tracy), Christopher Nelson, Melody Vaught, Aaron Bland and Noah Carpenter.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert "Bob" Lemon in 2007 and her dear brother, Jack Crooks.

Family would like to thank all the physicians, ICU and oncology staff members, especially Big Al for the exceptional care given to her during her illness. A special thanks to Dr. Richard Watson for all the love and care he provided to her and her family during her illness.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. A private family service will be held at a later date.
