Gene and Betty Jo Townsend of Belleville will celebrate their 60th anniversary with an open house reception given by their children from 1-4 p.m. today at their home on Lee Creek Road.
The couple were married on July 7, 1953 in Belleville with the Rev. Charles Knapp officiating.
She is the daughter of the late Floyd and Juanita Sellers of Wadesville. She is a homemaker.
He is the son of the late Clarence and Golden Townsend of Belleville. He retired from DuPont Washington Works in 1985.
They have six children, Randy (Babbie) Townsend, Sandra (Randy) Brown, Candice (the late Jerry) Fleak, Daniel (Leslie) Townsend, Pamela (Bud) VanMatre, and the late Steven F. Townsend, all of Belleville.
They are the grandparents of 13, Steven Townsend, Krista (Brian) Bell, Cassie Brown, Carrie (Jon) Latimer, Joshua (Brandi) VanMatre, Nicole VanMatre, Andrew, Alex and Allie Townsend, Jill (Nathan) Joy, and Lakita, Kendra and Kaitlyn Fleak. They also have 11 great-grandchildren.
