Parkersburg News and Sentinel

Carlene Etta Welker, 63, of Parkersburg, passed peacefully at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus, on Monday, July 1, 2013.

She was born in Parkersburg, and is the daughter of the late Phillip Anthony and Cora May (Elliott) Welker. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, W.Va., where she was a member of LWML. She was a previous volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital and also formerly employed at the Sheltered Workshop. Carlene was well liked and was sweetly known for her "old" jokes and big hugs. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and neighbors.

Carlene is survived by three brothers, Thomas Welker (Charlene), Phillip Anthony Welker (Shirley), and James Welker; four sisters, Norma Jean Smith, Amy Irene Williams, Mary Catherine Easton and Georgian Ann Shaw (Doug); numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Tina Morris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Corlene Ella Welker.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Broad Street in Parkersburg, with Pastor Roger Vernick officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, July 5, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday.

The family would like to thank Dr. Nik Shah, Dr. Hamirani, Dr. Gondalia, Dr. Francis, Dr. Shurma, and all the staff and dedicated nurses on Oncology and Critical Care Units for the skilled excellent care Carlene and her entire family received during the difficult time.
