PARKERSBURG - The American Radio Relay League's annual Field Day will be held this weekend across America and in Wood County.
Hundreds of amateur radio operators will work around the clock setting up field radio communication stations and contact other ham radio operator in the United States and Canada.
"Field Day is a way for ham, radio operators to get outdoors and have fun under some difficult conditions," said Ken Harris, director of Wood County Emergency Communications.
Wood County Emergency Communications Field Day will be held on Hendershot Farm Drive, 4.5 miles up Laurel Creek Road off Old St. Marys Pike.
Set up will start at 6 a.m. Saturday with operations to start at 2 p.m. and last 24 hours.
The public is encouraged to attend and ask questions. For more information, call Harris at 304 679-3470.
Field Day is the annual shakedown run for the Relay League's National Field Organization.
"But it's also a chance to fine tune emergency communications skills. We use emergency power such as generators and batteries and we erect emergency antennas in the field," Harris said.
