A funeral service for Beverly Ann (Smith) Owens will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at the Brucker &Kishler Funeral Home in Newark. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.
Friends and family may call on Sunday, June 16, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st Street.
Mrs. Owens, 61, of Newark, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 24, 1951, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Howard Paul and Marjorie (Elliott) Smith. Mrs. Owens was a 1969 graduate of Warren High School in Vincent, Ohio, and obtained an Associate's degree in business from The Ohio State University in Newark.
She had worked for Finley Fine Jewelry and had managed Dunkin Diamonds & Gold stores in Zanesville and Newark. For several years she operated an accounting and tax service. She was a member of the Long Run Methodist Church and had been a counselor at Girls State.
A cancer survivor, she had volunteered through the American Cancer Society for many Relay for Life events. Her passion was greyhound rescue and she leaves behind her beloved dogs, Spud, Queenie and Buddy.
Surviving are her husband, John Owens; step-children, John Owens, Jr. of Frazeysburg, Jenny (Vance) Whitt of Plattesville, Mo., Crystal Gough of Newark, Carrie (Keith) Bassett of Clarksville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Terri (Larry) Pickens of Barlow, Ohio; a brother, Randy (Debbie) Smith of Belpre, Ohio; three nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Grove and a step son, Jeffrey Craig Owens.
