Stephen Arnold Carney, 27, of Austin, Texas, died May 31, 2013, in the Ozarks National Forest doing what he loved.
He was born in Crown Point, Ind. on July 4, 1985 and was the son of David Lee and Rhonda Diane Coulson Carney. He grew up in Russia with his parents who were missionaries and graduated from the Hinkson Christian Academy in Moscow, Russia. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He was a very enthusiastic employee of Google and worked with them as a Team Leader. He attended the Austin Stone Church in Austin, Texas.
Survivors include his parents, Dave and Diane Carney, missionaries in Singapore, Singapore; his two sisters, Stephanie (Joshua) Thomas of Belpre, Ohio, Rachel (Travis Smith) Carney of Knoxville, Tenn.; two nephews, Carsten and Ayden Thomas of Belpre. Also surviving are his paternal grandparents, Pastor Walter and Ruth Carney of Charlotte, N.C.; maternal grandparents, Dean and Betty Smith of Vienna, W.Va., and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Arnold Coulson.
Services will be on Saturday 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna with Pastor Marty Fullerton and Pastor Jonathan Lands officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and from noon till time of services on Saturday at the church.
