PARKERSBURG - A second Parkersburg Historic District Yard Sale is slated for Father's Day weekend.
From 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 15, not only the area consisting of the Julia-Ann Square Historic District will be part of it; surrounding areas have been added this year.
Teresa Miller, an Avery Street resident, said they have expanded the scope of this year's event.
"We are inviting homes from Quincy, Avery, 13th, Market, Ann and Juliana streets, too," she said. "Shoppers will be able to find anything from furniture, jewelry, clothing, toys, antiques, tools, fishing gear, electronics and much more."
Miller said she thought up the idea as a way to help showcase the downtown area.
"I thought it would be another opportunity to get people to come into the downtown area and see what we have to offer with businesses and the beautiful historic homes," she said. "
Miller said the sale could be a help to those looking for a Father's Day gift.
"We will have a variety of things out there," she said. "You don't know what you will find, a fishing pole or maybe some power tools."
Miller said last year the sale had a number of items.
The nonprofit group, Integrated Community Services of Parkersburg, will be available after the sale to pick up donations. Anyone can call ahead to 304-865-0202 and schedule a time for the group to come by.
There will be musical performances at various locations from Rachael Pulls and Noah Parker,
Miller said she does not have a count of who will participate and people from outside the district are invited to participate.
Those from outside the district need to call her at 304-546-9954 to be assigned a spot.
They will be assigned to homes where the owner is not participating but has approved allowing a person to set out wares in front of the house.
In addition to the sale, shoppers will get a chance to look at the historic district and meet people who live there, Miller said.
