VOLCANO - Mountwood Park will hold its annual fishing derby for children and adults this weekend.
The Moon Over Mountwood Fishing Festival will be Friday and Saturday at Mountwood Park off U.S. 50, about 12 miles east of Parkersburg.
Registration begins at 4 p.m. Friday in the park marina's parking lot and the registration fee is $15 for ages 16 and up, $10 for ages 7-15 and free for children ages 6 and under.
Each adult participant must have a current West Virginia fishing license and all West Virginia Division of Natural Resources regulations have to be followed during the fishing derby.
Those anglers from ages 0-15 will fish from 5-9 p.m. Friday, with awards will be given out at 9:30 p.m. Everyone from age 16 and up will start fishing at 10 p.m. Friday, with all fish required to be checked in by 8 a.m. Saturday. Awards will be given out at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Anglers will be able to fish from the shore of Mountwood Lake or use their own boats with trolling motors during the adult division fishing. Fish will be measured by length to determine winners. This is not a total length competition, only the longest three fish in each group will be awarded prizes.
Sponsored by Cabelas, each child will be given a fishing pole at the time of registration and a trophy with their first fish while supplies last. There will also be prizes for the youth and adult divisions, ranging from poles and tackles up to bicycles for the youth and a john boat as top prize in the adult division.
