If Parkersburg is your hometown, chances are you might have been home this past weekend to participate or support the 20th year of Wood County's Relay For Life, held at City Park.
With approximately 500 survivors, 99 teams and over 1,000 participants, you can hold your head high, because the support of the general public, businesses both large and small gave generously to make this one of the most successful events held in the Parkersburg area. Mayor Newell expressed the same in his opening welcome to the general public.
A very small group of volunteers work at least nine months out of the year to see that all the wheels turn and that things come off as planned. The beauty of the luminaries around the pond as well as the hope, lighted on top of Mt. Olive Cemetery gives the residents of our city a feeling of pride and beauty.
Those from Parkersburg, the Mid-Ohio Valley and surrounding areas need to stand tall and be very proud of an event that is recognized as one of the top 10 in the nation.
