Yantus Gertrude Triplett "Gertie", 88, of Williamstown, W.Va., celebrated her arrival in Heaven upon passing away in the home of her nephew and niece, Darrell and Coni (Adkins) Burton the evening of May 20, 2013.

Gertie was born in Huball, W.Va., in the home of her parents, the late Troy and Thelma (Godby) Adkins on May 28, 1924. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Marshall College.

Gertie was married for 61 years to the late Tilford F. Triplett and they resided in Pleasant View until his death. She then moved to Williamstown, to live near Darrell and Coni.

Gertie worked at Spurlock Mercantile and the Post Office in Midkiff and the Department of Welfare in Hamlin. She taught school with Emergency Elementary Certificates from 1954 until she earned her degree in 1972. Gertie would tell you that she "never had a bad student". She taught in Lincoln and Wayne counties.

She is survived by two sisters, Rosaleen Adkins Siders of Portland, Ore., and Joyce Adkins Casto of Hamlin.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Lee Adkins Begley.

She loved and is loved by nephews and nieces: Harold (Beverly) Adkins, Mitchell (Sandy, deceased) Adkins, Don (Tammy) Adkins, Coni (Darrell) Adkins Burton, Jeanette (Jon) Adkins Shephard, Regina (John) May, Kathy Casto, and Elaine (Chris) Siders Owcarz as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24 at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin with James Caldwell II officiating. Burial will follow in Sloan Cemetery, Pleasant View.

Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
