TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Through two games at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional, everything is in synch for the Marietta College baseball team.
After defeating Penn State-Behrend by 10 runs in their opener, the Pioneers received a solid outing from starting pitcher Mike Mulvey and carried that momentum into the offensive side of things during a 16-1 win against Thomas More (Ky.) on Thursday.
Chris Winpigler terrorized Thomas More (30-15) pitching with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in six runs. Leadoff hitter Jordan Grilliot singled in all five of his plate appearances, while Evan Brockmeier delivered his third double of the tournament and scored three times as part of a 4-for-6 effort at the plate. Adding to the damage was Tim McCoy, who was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.
Second-seeded Marietta College (31-12) joins top-seeded Manchester (37-5-1) as the only unbeaten teams in the double-elimination format. The two schools will hook up in a game scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today.
The Marietta College bats gave Mulvey all the support he needed by scoring 11 runs on 12 hits in the first three innings.
Winpigler drove in two runs with a double and McCoy added a two-out RBI double as part of a four-run first inning.
