PARKERSBURG - The documentary "Money & Life" will be presented at 7 p.m. May 16 in the Summers Auditorium at the Wood County Public Library.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
The inspirational essay-style documentary asks whether the economic crisis can be seen as an opportunity, not as a disaster. It encourages transition to a sustainable, equitable and restorative economy that meets the needs and realities of the 21st century.
The Mid-Ohio Valley debut was organized by Ray V. Foss, a Christian layman who has collaborated with the experts in the documentary. Foss and Thomas H. Greco, who has written four-related books, have co-written articles published by the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
"Money & Life" is mostly secular with an echo of a faith-based economy, Foss said. It describes problems with ordinary debt-based money and the causes, he said.
"Rabbi Steve Leder is quoted 'We have privileged money over deity and have made of money a deity in our culture,'" Foss said.
Information about a faith-based economy will be available at the presentation. The handouts will summarize "The Jubilee Roadmap," which extracts the principles of a biblical rather than secular world view, by the Jubilee Centre of Cambridge UK, Foss said.
