PARKERSBURG - The American Pro Wrestling Alliance will help the Parkersburg Police Department raise money for drug awareness with an event at the Parkersburg High School Memorial Field House Saturday night.
Sgt. Greg Collins with the Parkersburg police said officials with the organization contacted him to ask if they could help city police with the war on drugs. After meeting with the wrestling alliance officials, Collins said he was "amazed at how passionate they were about wanting to help."
The event will be the second one put on for the police department. Collins said the first one raised $300 for the police department to put toward the purchase of pamphlets about bath salts, heroin and methamphetamines.
"We will be able to give these pamphlets to the public, providing people with critical information about drugs that are our three biggest problems right now," Collins said.
The wrestling organization is presenting the event "Pile Driving Drugs II."
"It's a good feeling when people call us to see how they can help," Collins said. "It tells me people see the good work our officers are doing."
For more information on the wrestling event or to purchase tickets visit www.freewebstore.org/apwa-wrestling-tickets or purchase tickets before the event at the PHS fieldhouse office. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
Doors open around 6:30 p.m. and the wrestling events begin around 7 p.m. Saturday.
A portion of the proceeds will go to drug awareness and the Parkersburg Police Department.
