The Warren High softball team has a 16-3 overall record so far this season and is 7-1 in the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League, earning them the league title.
That dominance earned the Warriors the top seed in their Division II Southeast District bracket. The Rachelle Pallini-coached squad earned a bye in the first round of the sectional tourney.
Eighth-seeded Marietta (3-21) softball, led by head coach Stacy Fleming, will play ninth-seeded Vinton County (1-18) in a sectional semifinal game on May 15. The winner of that game will play Warren three days later on May 18 for a sectional championship.
While Marietta and Warren softball could play as early as the sectional final, the baseball teams would not meet until the regional tournament, should both sides advance to that point.
The Tigers (11-13) earned a six seed on their side of the bracket and will play third-seeded Waverly (15-6) on May 16.
Marietta, guided by co-head coaches Larry Burke and Jim Thrash, split the season series against rival Warren (10-9), who will play No. 4 Athens (15-7) on May 16.
Mark Farr-coached Warren dropped a 5-4 extra inning affair to the Bulldogs on Saturday.
Also in the Southeast District, Waterford baseball and softball each earned six seeds in Division IV sectional action.
The Chad Augenstein-led baseball team (6-16) will play No. 3 Symmes Valley (15-3) on May 15. The Wildcats (8-11), with the guidance of head coach Doug Baldwin, will take on winless Miller in a sectional semifinal on the same day. A win would put Waterford softball in the sectional championship against third-seeded Federal Hocking (13-11).
Belpre softball (3-16) also will play on May 15 after receiving a nine seed. The Golden Eagles will square off against eighth-seeded Trimble (5-12).
Belpre's baseball team (2-18), competing in Division III, will play the same day against River Valley (5-12) in an eight-nine matchup.
Also in D-III, Sonny Bidwell's Fort Frye baseball team (14-8) earned a top seed and will face the winner of Bellaire and West Muskingum (4-16) on May 14.
