ATHENS - A man wanted by the Athens County Sheriff's Office surrendered to deputies after an hour-long standoff that involved gunfire Monday, officials said.
Deputies arrived at the residence of Franklin Green, 34, Fisher Road, Athens, Ohio, around 1:52 p.m. Monday to serve him with court documents, according to a press release issued by Sheriff Pat Kelly.
Green began firing shots at deputies about seven minutes after they responded to the scene, officials said. Around 1:59 p.m., a canine cruiser was struck with bullets and another round struck a deputy's vehicle tire, officials said.
No injuries were reported. The suspect apparently used a 30.06 rifle in the incident, officials said.
At 3:05 p.m. the sheriff made contact with Green by telephone, having a 30-minute conversation with him and allowing him to surrender to deputies, officials said.
Law enforcement officers did not fire at Green, officials said.
