VIENNA - Belk Department Store is showing its support for those living with cancer by joining forces with the Relay for Life of Wood County.
"Cancer affects us all, in one way or another," said store manager Ammie Rasmussen. "Many of us who work here have lost family members or battled it ourselves and we want to show our support."
The store in Grand Central Mall has about a dozen decorated bras and boxer shorts on display in the customer service area for members of the community to vote on.

Bras and boxer shorts decorated by Relay for Life of Wood County team members for the Belk Department Store event are on display in the customer service area of the store at Grand Central Mall.
"It is a really fun and different way to promote breast and prostate cancer awareness," said local business owner Kiki Angelos. "I've been involved with the Relay for Life for many years because 35 years ago I lost my dad to cancer and I want to help others beat it."
Community members are asked to pay $1 per vote on which bra they think should win, with all proceeds from voting going to the Relay for Life team the item was decorated by, which in turn will donate the funds to the American Cancer Society, said Rasmussen.
Entries will officially be unveiled at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the beginning of the Belk Relay for Life Private Charity Sale, which will run through 9 p.m., Rasmussen said.
Voting will begin after the unveiling of the bras and boxer shorts on display near the sitting area in the customer service room of the store.
While this is not the first time bras have been decorated and displayed in Belk, this is the first year for the private sale, Rasmussen said.
"We wanted to do something more, so we came up with the sale," she said.
Relay for Life team members are selling event tickets for $5 each with the tickets allowing 20 percent off most purchases (15 percent off home and shoes) that evening.
"There will be food donated by local restaurants and activities for those who join us," Rasmussen said. "It is just something fun we can do to raise money for such a great cause."
Awards for the decorated bras and boxers will be given for the People's Choice, Most Original and Funniest.
Winners will be announced and awards presented during the Relay's closing ceremonies at noon on May 18.
