Richard Leo Smith

Richard Leo Smith, of Newport, Ohio, departed this life on Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Emeritus of Marietta.

He was born on July 5, 1922, a son of the late Everett Leo Smith and Gladys Faye Coleman Smith Crislip. He was a truck driver for Safe Way Truck Lines, a veteran of World War II, a member of the 1st Armored Division Association, Elizabethtown Ky., member of the VFW Darlington-Dublin Post 10146, American Legion, Rising Son, Md., DAV-Cecil County 28 and Farm Bureau Harford County, Md.

Richard is survived by one son, Robert A. Smith, Jane Lew, W.Va.; one daughter, Linda A. Denton, Middlesex, N.C.; step-children, Deborah A. Wells, Fairbanks, Alaska, John Gilbert Price Jr., Spring Lake, Mich., and James Nutter, North Carolina; brother, James W. Smith, Newport, Ohio; nieces, Jean Gustafson (Tom) and Pat McCullar, both of California; and nephew, Doug Smith (Joan), Newport, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Smith; brother, William Smith; and a sister, Mary Boone.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, W.Va., with burial to follow in the Coleman Cemetery, near West Union, W.Va. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and after 9 a.m. on the day of the service.
