Blaine Simonton, 69, of St. Marys, W.Va., passed away April 18, 2013, at the Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus in Parkersburg, W.Va.
He was born April 15, 1944, in Pennsboro, W.Va., a son of the late Stanley and Mary Ann Hoskins Simonton. He was a 1963 graduate of Pennsboro High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He was retired from the former Quaker State Oil Refinery and he had worked for McDonalds in St. Marys. He was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Men. He had been a member of the St. Marys Jaycees. He was an avid St. Marys High School sports fan. He liked the New York Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, the Los Angeles Lakers and WVU Football and Basketball. He loved to watch his grandkids play sports.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sue Cottrill Simonton; four sons, J. R. (Kathy) Simonton and Chris (Tracy) Simonton of St. Marys, W.Va., Matt (Suellen) Simonton of Moundsville, W.Va., and Aaron (Elizabeth) Simonton of Parkersburg, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Simonton, Emily Koo, Andrew Simonton, Ashley Simonton, Ian Koo, Owen Lundy, William Simonton and Gavin Simonton; and his baby and companion, Leia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Northcraft; and infant brother, James Simonton; and his best friend, Jake Heldreth.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the St. Marys United Methodist Church, 104 Washington Street, St. Marys, W.Va., with Pastor Pam Shuman officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasants Memorial Estates at Eureka, W.Va. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., and from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church.
